Governor's tax cut will disproportionally benefit the wealthiest Ohioans.
The most important bill we work on every two years is the Budget Bill. I wanted to update you on changes we have made in Finance Committee to HB 59. I still have concerns because the latest changes continue to lock in cuts by Gov. Kasich which will hurt our schools, communities and middle class families. More money for school funding was promised, but the changes do not begin to solve the problems created by $1.8 billion in cuts in the governor’s last budget. By continuing to cut education, we are short-changing our future, limiting our long-term economic growth potential and forcing downward pressure on local property taxpayers. State Representative Matt Lundy (D-Elyria) announced today he will run for Lorain County Commissioner in 2014. Lundy is serving in his last two years in Columbus due to term-limits of eight years in the Ohio House of Representatives. “I have always worked to represent all of Lorain County, not just my district. I want to continue to fight for the families of our county by serving as county commissioner," Lundy said in a press release. Lundy, who graduated from Avon Lake High School, is a former Avon Lake councilman and Elyria Assistant Safety-Service Director. He unsuccessfully ran for a Commissioner's seat in 1994. Work is underway in Columbus on the new two-year state budget for Ohio. Once again, I will serve on House Finance Committee (10 Democrats and 21 Republicans). We must work together to do what is best for all Ohioans. The new budget proposed by Gov. Kasich is over $63 billion ($7 billion more in spending). The Medicaid expansion will make 365,000 more Ohioans eligible for coverage (currently 2.3 million Ohioans). Once you factor in additional costs, additional federal reimbursements and eligibility changes, the state expects to net close to $500 million dollars. Similar approach has caused Pennsylvania's debt to grow by billions
The Ohio Turnpike, one of our greatest assets in the state, will not end up in the hands of private ownership. The governor has wisely backed away from his extreme plan for the turnpike. I want to thank all of you who worked together with me in our fight to keep the turnpike under public control. The governor is pushing the results of a new study in which he wants to raise $1.5 billion with a bond issue backed by turnpike tolls. This amount would be combined with local and federal matches to yield nearly $3 billion for road projects away from the turnpike. Tolls would rise only at the rate of inflation. State representative sworn in by Armond Budish.
State Rep. Matt Lundy was sworn in by House Minority Leader Armond Budish in Columbus to serve as representative for the new 55th House District, Jan. 7. Due to term limits, this will be Lundy’s last term in the Ohio House of Representatives in Columbus. Representatives were sworn in on the floor of the House chamber at the Ohio Statehouse. “It is as humbling an experience as being sworn in for the first time," Lundy said. "It is a great honor knowing that Lorain County families have placed their trust in me. We must focus on jobs, but equally focus on properly funding our schools since a well-educated workforce is critical to our economic future.”

Gov. John Kasich's new plan calls for $1.5 billion in new bonds being issued.

Kasich’s plan to forego privatization of the Ohio Turnpike today and instead issue $1.5 million in new bonds for road, bridge and waterway projects, primarily in northern Ohio. Gov. Lawmakers are either disconnected or believe money will benefit their communities.
I have always believed that we must work together to solve the serious problems facing Ohio families. This session, we worked closely together to crack down on pill mills in our state. We also worked across party lines to put together a comprehensive law to protect minors and strengthen penalties for those engaged in human trafficking. Gambling was another area where we worked together. I worked to earn bi-partisan support for an amendment to generate more revenue from the gambling industry to help address gambling addiction in our state. Bring questions, concerns Saturday at 11 a.m.
State Representative Matt Lundy will hold a "Lundy Listens" town hall meeting at the Avon Lake Public Library at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13. Avon Lake residents can ask questions and voice questions and concerns to Avon and Avon Lake's state representative. Lundy, a graduate of Avon Lake High School will also provide a brief progress report on his actions in the legislature over the past few months and discuss other state issues. The event is free and open to the public.

To the Editor: As a lifelong resident of Northeast Ohio and former boater, I have always appreciated what a great resource Lake Erie is for our state. Lake Erie is not only a valuable source of drinking water but also affords numerous tourism, recreation and business opportunities. We must always make sure that policies are in place to make sure that our lake is safe and protected. Matt Lundy shares our concerns about Lake Erie and voted against an irresponsible bill that could have done great harm to our lake. The bill was even vetoed by the governor.
