Bathrooms in Kopf Reservation tabled in 2010.
Two years after Avon Lake City Council tabled plans to build a restroom in Belle Road Park, a group is hoping to resurrect plans, albeit in a slightly different area. In 2010, residents living on Armour and Belle roads near the 3-acre park objected to plans to build a restroom there, saying it could invite vandalism, sex and bring undesirables to the area, which is near a residential area. The park, although city property, is part of the Kopf Family Reservation (formerly Save the Woods), a sprawling 162-acre passive park with three and a half miles of trails. Members of the Avon Lake High School cross country team put in their paces running through the Kopf Family Reservation. The reservation, part of the Lorain County Metropark system, is a popular destination for runners and bikers, with more than three miles of paved trails and numerous winding paths through the woods.

It's easy to say put the bathroom in... it appears to not cost anybody anything, but that is not exactly true. The city will have to provide the hookup to the sewer and water and power and likely gas, since it is said it will be open year around. Also people forget that if we add a structure the Police have to be able to do a drive by to patrol it.. with the artist rendering of a fence around it …   more ›
