Full and part-time employees needed.
The Avon Walmart is preparing for the Aug. 2 opening of the store’s expansion by hiring an additional 80 part and full-time employees. The store has been hiring since February but is stepping up its efforts to have the building staffed for the additional amenities. Walmart is in the process of adding 32,000 square feet to the store, located at 35901 Chester Road, making it a Supercenter with a grocery section that will include produce, meat, dairy and a bakery. When completed, the store will be 183,000 square feet. Amy's Hallmark store sells cards, gifts.
Amy’s Hallmark has opened its doors in Avon. The corporate-owned specialty card and gift store opened Feb. 27 in the Avon Commons in the space formerly occupied by Playmatters (near Panera Bread). In addition to staples such as greeting cards, gift wrap, stationery, and gift collections, the store also features collections of innovative and unique kids’ items and baby gifts, and a wide range of ladies’ jewelry, accessories, entertaining items and candles. “Candles are always big,” store manager Carrie Hitchcock said. “We also have what we call 'mom items' and a large baby section.” The store also carries traditional and specialty cards, as well as non-traditional and special event cards. “Greeting cards still make up 50 percent of our …

Donations now being accepted.
The Salvation Army store in Avon will officially open on Jan. 26. The Salvation Army broke ground in May on its newest Northeast Ohio location, and as of Dec. 13, workers were putting items on racks inside the store. “We’re now accepting donations,” Salvation Army Capt. Patrick Wilson said. Donations can be dropped off at the Main Street location (which connects SR 83 and Chester Road) at the rear of the building between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Wilson said plans initially called for a November opening, but the project experienced delays. “We’re definitely set for Jan. 26. Ribbon cutting for long-awaited project will be at 10 a.m.
The long awaited I-90 Nagel Road Interchange is scheduled to officially open on Thursday, Dec. 20 at 10 a.m. Avon Mayor Jim Smith and other dignitaries will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Attendees are asked to enter the event from the north, from the intersection of Chester Road and Nagel Road. "After everyone clears out (from the ceremony), the road will be open to traffic," a source at the mayor's office said. Project manager Don Damyanic said the road should be open by noon. "Motorists are strongly urged to use caution while becoming familiar with the new lane assignments, signals and traffic patterns," Damyanic said. Guest fees have increased. City urging residents to sign up online.
Following an inaugural season that boasted crowds so large visitors were turned away, the city of Avon Lake is readying the community pool for another season. The pool, officially called The Ellen Trivonivich Aquatic Center, opens Friday, June 3. Avon Lake City Engineer Joe Reitz said residents are urged to sign up for pool passes online. “I highly encourage people to do that,” Reitz said. “June 3 will be here before you know it.” The city began filling the 500,000-gallon pool on May 23 and finished the following day. Salvation Army in Avon and Strongsville are AWESOME! Prices are decent. The Goodwill out there isn't any good in my opinion. Not enough stuff for the kids dept. I will say I do like that the GW doesn't staple their tags to the clothing but other than that, either SA I mentioned are AWESOME!!   more ›
