Trash Fees will Slightly Increase in 2011
Residents will pay another $8.40 a year; the city will continue to pick up $600,000 in fees
First the bad news: Your trash rates are going up next year. Now the good news: The increase, $8.40 a year, is less than 70 cents a month per house. Avon Lake City Council will vote in January whether to pass along Allied Waste Service's entire annual increase of $8.40 to the residents. Previously, the city picked up about a third of the annual increase paid to Allied. "It's time the city gets out of the trash business," Councilman Martin O'Donnell, who heads the city's Public Service Committee, said at council's Dec. 20 meeting. It might not sound like a lot, but O'Donnell said the savings to the city amounts to about $20,000 for the year; money that could be put toward street and sewer projects.
