Dlugosz Retiring: Share Your Thoughts

After 21 years, Shoremen coach Dave Dlugosz will step down as head coach. Share your well wishes below.

Avon Lake football coach and Hall of Famer Dave Dlugosz is retiring. Dlugosz, who earned his 200th coaching victory this past season against Amherst, has collected a host of awards and accomplishments during his career. In 2003, his Shoremen won the Div. II state championship. He accumulated a record of 200-44, and earned won 18 Southwestern Conference championships, including 15 of the last 16 years. “Twenty-two years as a head coach is a long time, and that’s essentially what it came down to,” Dlugosz told the Chronicle-Telegram.  “We still have some very qualified guys on our coaching staff to carry on what has happened at Avon Lake, year after year. School District Begins Search for New Treasurer

Current treasurer Denise Holcomb will retire in February

Avon Lake School District Treasurer Denise Holcomb has announced she will be retiring on Feb. 29, 2012. The school board has begun the search for her replacement. Holcomb, who was hired on Feb. 29, 2000, has logged 39 years working for school districts. Prior to joining Avon Lake, she worked in Port Clinton. “Working in Avon Lake has definitely been the high point of my career,” Holcomb, who has worked in four separate locations, said. “Every place I went everything was a little better, different.” The district began advertising the position last week, including a posting on the Buckeye Association of School Administrators and the Ohio School Boards Association.
