With locations in Rocky River and downtown Cleveland, local coffee shop offers smooth coffees and delicious food.
To get to Erie Island Coffee at 19300 Detroit Ave. in Rocky River, I drove past at least one Starbucks and Caribou Coffee. I couldn’t help it. Sometimes the smooth seasonal coffee blend is the only thing that will satisfy my caffeine craving. Located in Beachcliff Market Square, Erie Island is locally owned. It was started by a few friends on Kelley’s Island looking to create coffee like you’d find In Seattle and Rome. Luckily for us, they’ve been successful and brought this passion to Northeast Ohio. During my visit, I came to Erie Island to work— something I’ve done a few times before— and enjoyed the free Wi-Fi, quiet weekday atmosphere, an Ivory Mocha Frappe and a French Toast Crush sandwich. The sandwich was a favorite I discovered …

This Rocky River restaurant takes you for a journey across the pond.
Rocky River’s The Pub at 19304 Detroit Rd. has one of those patios I could sit on all summer. With an expansive menu and large drink list, there is enough sustenance to last at least that long. During this visit, my friends and I sat outside and each got a drink before exploring the menu. The hardest part of our meal was trying to decide which appetizers to get. Luckily, they offer half size appetizers, so we sampled the Bellhaven Beer Cheese, Young’s BBQ Crisps and the Goat Cheese Dip. The Bellhaven Beer Cheese was mild and worked to accent and not overwhelm the warm pretzel bread that accompanied it. The Goat Cheese Dip had a marinara sauce that I thought was a nice addition, but that my friends didn’t care for it. Finally the Young’s …

Victory gives team back-to-back wins at invitational
It's always good to win your own invitational. It's even better to defend your team title. Both the Avon Lake boys and girls track squad's did exactly that at the 15th annual Avon Lake Track and Field Invitational. It was the Shoremen’s seventh win at their home invite and the Shoregals’ fourth. The Shoregals had 138.50 points on the day, and were paced by six first-place finishes. West Shore Conference powerhouse Rocky River finished in second with 110 points. Katie Link defended her 1,600 meter title with a (5:22.65) besting Rocky River's Maddy McDonough by six seconds. She also was part of two winning relay teams including the Shoregals 4x400 meter relay (Link, Kailey McLain, Anne Coyne, and Taylor Nedrich). Christine Bohan defended her…

Senior swimmer sets marks in 200 IM, 100 breast.
Avon High senior Elliot Runge closed out his successful career in West Shore Conference (WSC) swimming and diving championships by setting meet records in both the 200 individual medley and 100 breast at Fairview Park's Gemini Center on Saturday. Runge broke his own WSC mark in the 200 IM with a time of 2 minutes, 3.59 seconds, nearly six seconds better than the previous mark he set in 2010 with a 2:09.21. That was good enough to hold off Rocky River junior Daniel Parris, who also move past Runge's 2010 WSC record with a 2:07.22. Third went to Chris Grant of Rocky River at 2:16.36 while fourth fell to Avon's Tudor Chesaru, who had a 2:17.17 "I was really tired," said Runge after the IM. "I'm not tapering right now. I wanted to go out fast …
