Pope Benedict XVI to Step Down at Month's End

Last pontiff resignation happened nearly 600 years ago.

Pope Benedict XVI announced early Monday that he will resign on Feb. 28 due to concerns over failing health, the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland said. The 85-year-old pontiff said in a statement, "After having repeatedly examined my conscience before God, I have come to the certainty that my strengths, due to an advanced age, are no longer suited to an adequate exercise of the Petrine ministry." Pope Benedict, who was elected in April 2005, would be the first pope to resign in nearly 600 years, according to Catholic News Service. The pope has increasingly had trouble walking in the past year, often using a cane and always being helped on stairways, CNS reported. This pope and the last pope could not or would not stop the abuse of children in the catholic church. The situation still goes on. Over 700 priests have commited this crime and at tops 50 have been put in prison. $27 billion paid out by the church to the families. The bishops and the cardinals have control and use every angle to cover it up. Lets hope that the new pope comes in and cleans house …   more ›

Providence Church Uses Garage Sale to Raise Money for Mission

Sale will help fund mission trip to Italy

What do winter coats, old blenders and used books have in common? They could all help send eight members of Providence Church to Rome in July on a missionary trip. The church held an indoor garage sale on Thursday, offering deals on everything from vintage furniture to jewelry. Church members donated the goods for sale. Jenny Bzdafka, wife of senior paster Jim Bzdafka and a leader in the children's ministry, was in charge of the sale. The sale is to help fund the travel expenses for the eight people going, including Jenny Bzdafka and two of the couple's grown children. They are going from July 7 to 21.
