Avon Lights Up For The Holidays: Gallery

Avon's Candlelite Walk weekend brought out thousands to enjoy warm weather and holiday cheer.

The annual Candlelite Walk in Avon included trains, gingerbread houses, carolers and of course, Santa, who made the journey from Olde Avon Village to the Heritage Square Gazebo in the French Creek District in a horse-drawn carriage. Seasonal revelers enjoyed temperatures nearing 60 on Saturday night and carolers and residents followed Santa west down Detroit Avenue carrying battery-lit candles to the gazebo where singing continued. The events followed a Wine Walk on Friday night. Did you take pictures? Add them to our gallery.

So, we're sharing our Santa photos with you to get you in the holiday spirit. Want to share yours too? Sure, that'd be awesome.

Breakfast with Santa a Holiday Treat

Santa stopped by Avon East to have breakfast and meet Avon's youngsters, courtesy of the Avon Early Childhood PTA.

That Santa fella sure is busy this time of year. Saturday he was at Avon East Elementary School for the Avon Early Childhood Parent Teacher Association’s Breakfast with Santa, an annual fundraiser that usually yields about 700 Santa-seers, said ECPTA member Mariko Weaver “We probably raise between $2,000 and $3,000 dollars,” said Weaver, who co-chairs the event with Jen Williams. “At the end of the year, the ECPTA gets together and donates whatever money we have left to local charities.” Did you bring your child to meet Santa? Share your photos here! The event featured a continental breakfast, a crafts room for kids to color sun catchers and mail letters to Santa, a raffle of 30 items donated from area businesses, musical entertainment …

Pet Photos With Santa a Hit for Love-A-Stray

Santa stopped by Paws by the Lake to take photos with more than 100 pets at Love-A-Stray event.

More than 100 pets got their picture taken with Santa Claus at Paws by the Lake Saturday for the Pet Photos with Santa benefit for Love-A-Stray. The organization asked for a donation of $10, and Santa, his elves and some props were available. “All the Love-A-Stray volunteers look forward to Pet Photos with Santa because so many of the dogs we have rescued throughout the year attend the event with their new families to support our non-profit group,” Love-A-Stray director Connie Field said. “There is nothing better than seeing a dog that was once sad and homeless march into the room with their new family, knowing they are happy and safe now." All proceeds went to Love-A-Stray Non-Profit Rescue. Refreshments, raffles and door prizes were …

Viewfinder: Christmas Time in Avon

Santa Claus made a stop at Saturday's Santa Stroll & Tree Lighting.

Santa Claus took a vacation from the North Pole on Saturday to stop by Avon's tree-lighting ceremony and listen to children's Christmas wishes at the Santa Stroll & Tree Lighting. The event was sponsored by the French Creek Development Association, which hosted a reception in the newly-renovated Avon Isle with refreshments and model trains set up by the Railblazers and the Amherst Railroaders. Fran Burik, president of the French Creek Development Association, said the event was a success. "There more people than we expected, a lot more," she said. Did you get some pictures of the tree-lighting, or your children with Santa? Share them here!

Holiday Weekend Blowout of Things to Do

There are so many holiday-inspired events this weekend, we expanded our list!

Thanksgiving is in the rearview mirror, the dust has settled from Black Friday and the cyber dust has settled from Cyber Monday. The holiday season is in full force, so much so that this week’s Five Things comes with a holiday bonus -- no, not a lifetime enrollment in the Jelly of the Month Club -- it's actually Eight Things, and they're all holiday themed. Mark your calendar while you sip your egg nog.

But what’s a holiday celebration without Santa Claus lighting the tree…

Dashing Through the Stores: Moms Talk

Have you started your holiday shopping yet?

Black Friday and Cyber Monday may be over, but there are still 25 shopping days until Christmas. Freaking out yet? Some get their holiday shopping done early. Others have barely started. This year, a major car repair knocked out my plans to get most of my shopping done early. Other families are dealing with more serious financial stresses. Today, let's talk gifts and shopping. Have you been to the stores after Thanksgiving, or have you let your fingers do the walking across the keyboard and shopped online? Share your tips for shopping, cyber-shopping, and finding the right gift for that hard-to-shop-for person on your list. Who is the hardest person to shop for on your gift list? Remember the old Sears Wish List catalog of olden days? What…

I'm with Julie...I'm not done yet, but I start stashing things for the next year right after Christmas. If I can save and not have to worry about it to boot, why not? My children haven't really asked for anything outrageous since they are still so young, but I let the kids know that Santa doesn't necessarily buy what is asked for if he thinks of something that they would like better. Which is …   more ›
