Eighth, Fourth-Graders Will Team Up to Write Books

Costo will help with project, secured by Lorain County grant.

After months of learning about the common elements of literature and short stories, eighth-grade students in Patricia Rini’s Language Arts class are ready to put their writing skills and creativity into action.  Her fourth-period students have been selected to help Nancy Blankenship’s fourth-graders at Redwood Elementary School write picture books that will teach others about the universal theme of friendship.   “I think this service project is a wonderful opportunity for my fourth graders,” Blankenship said. “We have second grade buddies here at Redwood, but to be able to travel to Learwood and interact with much older students will be an experience they won’t soon forget.” This project was jumpstarted by the Peer Assistance Review …

Redwood Teacher Touts Health and Activity, Earns Grant

Renee Stuart recognized for participation in Jump Rope for Heart

Redwood Elementary School phys ed teacher Renee Stuart likes to keep her students on their toes. Especially if it means jumping. Stuart, who along with her students, claims a part in the world record for jumping jacks, learned earlier this month she was one of 10 grant recipients nationally for her work in the Jump Rope for Heart program, which promotes heart health for children.  The $2,500 grant, awarded from the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) will pay for Stuart to attend this year’s national physical education convention Charlotte and includes a $1,200 award for Stuart to purchase new equipment for Redwood. “She using that to buy new volleyball nets for the school,” Redwood Principal T.…

She was my gym teacher when I was a kid. Those old volleyball nets were new back then! She was very nice and I always enjoyed the fun stuff she planned for gym class. Congrats!   more ›
