Avon Lake Girls Win Bowling Green Soccer Tournament

U-11 travel team went 4-0 last weekend.

The Avon Lake Lightning under-11 girls travel soccer team went 4-0 last weekend, winning the Bowling Green Spring Soccer Challenge tournament. The tournament, hosted at Bowling Green State University, attracts more than 400 teams from Canada and the U.S.  The Lightning is comprised of girls that attend Troy Intermediate School. The Lightning won all three of their preliminary games to earn a spot in the championship game. Battling a persistent rain and soggy conditions on Sunday, the girls defeated a team from Greater Toledo Football Club by a score of 4-1 to win the championship trophy for their age division. Avon Lake Maroon Wins 6th Grade War on the Shore

A penny for good luck? For Allie Heschel it was.

Avon Lake sixth-grade basketball player Allie Heschel saw a penny on the floor when she walked into the gym at Avon Lake High School. “It was heads up so I put it in my shoe for good luck,” she said. Allie plays for Avon Lake Maroon, a sixth-grade travel basketball team competing in Avon Lake’s War on the Shore (WOTS)Tournament. The War on the Shore is the Avon Lake Travel Basketball Association’s end of season tournament, held at Avon Lake High School. The seventh-annual WOTS hosted 47 girls and boys teams from across northeast Ohio this past weekend. Eagle Boys Basketball Begin Tournament Run Tonight

Eagle bested Midview on Feb. 22 to split conference championship title with Rocky River.

The Avon High School boys basketball team begins their tournament run on Tonight at 7:30 p.m. vs. Lorain at Midview High School after winning the conference championship on Senior Night, Feb. 22. Coach Kevin Sapara's Eagles battled Midview on Feb. 22  besting the Midview Sailors 54-50 win share the West Shore Conference championship with Rocky River. It marked the first time since 1991 Avon won the title and led to post-season action for Sapara, who is in his first year coaching. Presale tickets are available in the athletic office.  Presale tickets for ALL Adults are $6 and $4 for students. All tickets at the door are $6.
