Five Things: Softball, City Council, Shredding

Lots going on in Avon this week

The Akron Racers professional softball team is playing an exhibition game against Ohio college all-stars at 6 p.m. Monday at All Pro Freight Stadium. Tickets are $7. Avon City Council meets for what looks to be an interesting work session at 7:30 p.m. Monday at City Hall. The financing of the Nagel Road interchange, a topic that has generated concern and controversy, is on the agenda. The Journey of Hope golf fundraiser is Tuesday at Red Tail. Bubba's Q owner Al "Bubba" Baker is the special guest. The event is sold out. Is the paper piling up in your home? Get rid of it at the Community Shredding from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at City Hall. Shredding Network will handle the shredding, and you can watch your paper clutter turn into confetti…

Five Things This Weekend: Relay for Life, Graduation, "The Drowsy Chaperone"

Another exciting weekend in the Avon area!

Looks like Mother Nature is trying to make up to us for the soggy spring, because it looks like we've got another weekend of warm and mostly sunny weather. Hope that helps the local strawberries! The Avon/Avon Lake Relay for Life starts at 4 p.m. Saturday at Avon Lake High School and runs through 10 a.m. Sunday. Go, relayers! The final performances of The Drowsy Chaperone are this weekend at Huntington Playhouse in Bay Village. Performances are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $20 for adults. Sunday is graduation day for Avon High School's Class of 2011. Two-hundred and 55 seniors are set to receive their diplomas at the 2 p.m. ceremony. Congratulations to them and their parents. Softball Game at All Pro Freight Stadium

Professional team to take on former college players

The Akron Racers, a professional softball team, will be playing a game at All Pro Freight Stadium on June 6.  The Racers, part of the National Prof Fastpitch league, will play a 6 p.m. exhibition game against the Ohio Senior Collegiate All Stars, a team made up of Ohio senior collegiate players who have finished their college eligibility. Players on the Ohio Senior Collegiate All Stars must be graduates of an Ohio high school and played for an Ohio college or university. Tickets for the game are $7 general admission and can be bought at the Lake Erie Crushers website or by calling 440-934-3636. Both teams will conduct a skills camp from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. that day at All Pro Freight Stadium. The camp is $60 per participant and includes a …
