Mother-Daughter Tea Day; Library eCards: Avon Lake Library Events

Here's an upcoming event and a new, techy feature provided by the Avon Lake Public Library: Mother-Daughter Tea Grandmothers, mothers and daughters (ages 5 and up) are invited to enjoy a delightful “high tea” afternoon on Sunday, April 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. Caroline Urban, the “Apron Lady” will share her amazing collection of aprons and fascinating stories to go with each one. Children will do an apron craft. Prepaid registration at the Circulation desk is required by Sunday, April 14. Space is limited. Registration begins April 1; adult fee is $5 and girls are free. Avon Lake Voters Will Decide on Three Issues

School district has two levies on the ballot, the Avon Lake Library has one.

Avon Lake voters will decide on three issues on the ballot May 3; two are for the Avon Lake School District and one supports the Avon Lake Public Library. Issues 4 and 5 support the Avon Lake School District. Passage of the levies will not result in a tax increase. Issue 4 is renewal of a 10-year, 1.5 mill permanent improvement levy that will raise $650,000 annually for maintenance of eight school buildings. It amounts to $18.98 per $100,000 of property evaluation. Issue 5 is a five-year, 5.45 mill emergency levy that will raise $4.5 million annually. The emergency levy amounts to $166.90 per $100,000 of home evaluation. Both of these levies are renewals and will not cost the taxpayers any additional money. They go into effect in 2012. …

Library Seeks Replacement Levy, Increase

Sunday hours will be restored if May 3 levy passes

The Avon Lake Public Library is seeking a replacement-operating levy that will result in an increase of $5 per month per $200,000 home valuation. Currently, taxpayers are paying slightly more than $9 per month for the same valuation. “That’s the cost of two cups of really good coffee,”  Avon Lake Library Director Mary Crehore told the Avon Lake Board of Education on Jan. 11. The Board of Education acts as an agent for the library and must approve the motion. The library is seeking approval of a 5-year, 2.8-mill levy that will raise $2.3 million a year at the  May 3 election. The rate includes an additional 1 mill.
