Eagles, Shoremen Grab Top 5 at Avon Lake Invitational

Avon finished fourth ahead of fifth-place Avon Lake for the boys.

Both the Avon Eagles and Avon Lake Shoremen boys track teams had a strong showing at Saturday's Avon Lake Invitational. Avon had a fourth-place finish while Avon Lake came in fifth. The Shoremen girls came in seventh followed by the ninth-place Lady Eagles. The Avon 4X400 meter team of Brentten Wiley, Nick Telidis, Nick Varich and John DeMarco ended the meet with a second-place finish at 3:37 seconds. DeMarco nabbed first in the boys 400 meter dash as well at 52.67 seconds. The Eagles 4X200 meter team of Brentten Wiley, Jake Bitter, Antonio Orr and DeMarco finished first with a time of 1:33. Avon Lake's David Winkel finished second in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.62 seconds. Find out the full schedule for Avon and Avon Lake …

Lady Shoremen Lose to North Olmsted in Last Regular Basketball Game of Season

It was a close contest from the opening tip, but in the end, the Lady Shoreman lost by two points, 51-49.

The Avon Lake High Lady Shoremen had a commanding start in the Feb. 14 basketball game against the North Olmsted Lady Eagles. But after halftime, the scores started to reverse. According to cleveland.com, Avon Lake scored 15 points in both the first and second quarters, compared to North Olmsted's 6 and 16 points, respectively. However, after halftime, North Olmsted finished strong scoring 16 and 13 points in the third and fourth quarter, making the final score 51-49. The Lady Shoremen begin their tournament run at 1 p.m. on Feb. 23rd against Avon at Elyria Catholic.
