Lisa M. Reitz (nee Selmon), 48, of Avon Lake, formerly of Strongsville, passed away Friday, April 12, 2013 at The Ames Family Hospice House, Westlake, after a year and a half battle with lung cancer. Lisa was born Oct. 28, 1964 in the Bronx, NY and had lived in Avon Lake the past eight years. Lisa graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Bowling Green State University. For the past six years she was employed as a payroll clerk for Metro Health System Cleveland. She was a member of Holy Spirit Church, Avon Lake and enjoyed gardening and working in the yard. Bryan Kyle Wedell, 22 of Avon Lake passed away unexpectedly at his home Friday, April 5, 2013. Bryan was born June 5, 1990 in Cleveland and was a lifelong resident of Avon Lake. He was a graduate of Avon Lake High School Class of 2009 and attended Lorain County Community College. He was employed the past three years as a plumber with Avon Lake Plumbing. He was a member of Holy Spirit Church, Avon Lake. Bryan enjoyed snow-boarding, skate-boarding, fishing and boating. His family will always remember his great sense of humor, his charm and good looks. Meredith Dee Coleman, former pastor of Lake Shore United Methodist Church passed away on March 17, 2013 in Jefferson, Ohio. She was born on July 11, 1951. Meredith had a student appointment with Scioto & Harmony Methodist Church from 87-88 and was appointed the pastor of Lake Shore United Methodist Church in 1991, serving until 1997, when she was appointed to the Jefferson United Methodist Church, where she was serving when she passed away. She passed away the morning of March 17, after a short, but courageous battle against cancer. Always sensitive to fellow believers, "Pastor Meredith" finished her race on the birthday of her earthly father, the Rev. Parker West. Myrtle P. "Pat" Grove (nee Russell), age 80, of Avon Lake passed away unexpectedly at Medina Hospital in Medina on Feb. 2, 2013. She was born April 1, 1932 in Acosta, PA and had resided in Avon Lake for the past 52 years. Mrs. Grove was employed for 20 years at St. John West Shore in Central Supply. Resided most of his life in Avon
Carl Lewis Hembly, 96, who lived in Avon most of his life, passed away on Jan. 19, 2013 at The North Ridge Health Center. Carl was born in Detroit on June 21, 1916 and was a North Ridgeville resident at the time of his death. Carl served his country as a member of the US Army Air Corp during WWII, stationed in England. He spent the last 20 years of his career at NASA, Cleveland, as a Journeyman Sheet Metal Model Maker and retired 1979. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Elyria and the David F. Schneider VFW Post 7035, Avon/Avon Lake. In his spare time and through out his retirement he enjoyed golf as well as trips to nearby casinos. Alfred Arthur Schmitz, 84 of Avon, passed away on Jan. 8, 2013 after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Al was born into a large family of 10 children in Cleveland on Oct. 24, 1928 and graduated from Fairview High School. He was a devoted husband of 57 years and is survived by his wife Donna Mae (nee Ware). During their marriage, Al and Donna have lived in Olmsted Falls, Parma, Olmsted Township and Avon. Al was also a proud father of four: Pamela LaGorga of Avon, James (Julia) of Troy MI; John (Christina) of Houston, TX and Paul of Atlanta, GA. Mary Grace Yurmanovich (nee Conti), 92 of Avon Lake passed away Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012 following a lengthy battle with dementia. She was born on Oct. 9, 1920 in Lilly, PA. Mary Grace was an assembler at Lorain Products, a homemaker and worked for Novotny Catering. She was a graduate from Lilly High School in Lilly, PA. She was an active member at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Avon Lake. She loved to go bowling, dancing, shopping at the mall and going to lunch with friends. LaVern "Vern" J. Forthofer, 90, a lifelong resident of Avon, passed away on Dec. 22, 2012 at St. John Medical Center. Mr. Forthofer was born on July 9, 1922. He was a graduate of Avon High School and served in the United States Army during WWII, participating in the D-Day invasion at Normandy, with the 324th Field Artillery Battalion as the chief radio operator. He also was involved in other battles throughout Central Europe until his honorable discharge on Dec. 7, 1945. Mr. Forthofer worked as a carpenter and construction supervisor for various companies.
