Everyone Loves A (Duct Tape) Parade

Were you there? Share your photos by adding them to the gallery

Thousands lined the parade route on Detroit Road for this year's Avon Heritage Duct Tape Festival parade on June 15, and few were disappointed. Dozens of floats, most safari themed, rolled from Avon High School to Veterans Memorial Park where this year's festival was held. Floats from duct tape construction vehicles to lions, tigers and giraffes followed a life-sized duct-tape inspired elephant. Crusher's mascot showed up, as did a cotillion of miniature horses. Were you there? Upload your favorite photos.  Check out our gallery of photos from the parade and come back later for a gallery roundup of the parade and festival from photographer Eric Bonzar.

Safari is the Theme for Duct Tape Festival

Ninth annual Avon Heritage Duct Tape Festival to be held Father's Day Weekend

Lions and tigers and duct tape! Oh, my! Safari is the theme for this year's Avon Heritage Duct Tape Festival, which will be held June 15, 16 and 17 at Veterans Memorial Park in neighboring Avon. "We're going to have some really great stuff this year," said Patti Sack, assistant communications manager at ShurTech, the Avon company that makes Duck Brand duct tape. Befitting a safari theme, this year's grand marshal is Outback Ray. He will also do a meet-and-greet at the festival, where visitors can see and maybe touch his animals. There will also be carnival rides, food and games. The festival draws heavily not just from immediate communities, but from around the state and country. Duct tape has become more than Dad's favorite fix-it. The …

Duct Tape Festival Satisfies Sports Nuts

Matt Pawlikowski interviews Miss America inside the Duct Tape Man Cave.

The eighth annual Avon Heritage Duct Tape Festival this weekend might have parents of college age kids or wives of the sports nut a little on the edge. Not because it was risqué, but because this year's theme, "Real Fans Stick Together" and Grand Marshal Miss America, drew plenty of curious fans to the festival that also featured unique sculptures, including a bowling alley and putting green. "I was amazed at what you can do with tape," Robert Harrison of Lancaster, Pa. said. "I'm a sports nut, and when I heard about the theme this year had to make the six hour trek. After seeing the (duct tape-displayed) locker, I'm thinking of doing the same in my basement. This is impressive." Without a doubt the highlight of the Duct Tape Festival …

Five Things You Should Know This Week

Five Things: Duct Tape, Ice Cream and Council

Another full week in Avon!

Are you ready for some duct tape? The annual Avon Heritage Duct Tape Festival is Friday through Sunday. Not only is there music, a parade, fashions and sculptures made of duct tape, but we're getting Miss America! Teresa Scanlan, who loves crafting, is said to use duct tape often in her crafts. Avon Patch and other area Patch editors will be on hand over the weekend, and will be in the parade. There's a full agenda at Monday's 7:30 p.m. City Council meeting. Before the meeting, there are public hearings on an ordinance to include Nagel Road in the city's master trail plan, and an ordinance on reducing the number of parking spaces fast-food restaurants with drive-thrus are required to have. Both ordinances are on the meeting's agenda for a …
