Chef's wife blasts kids menus in blog post

Who could hate the kids menu? Smaller portions, kid-friendly food, cheaper prices. What's not to love? According to Amelia Sawyer, a lot. Sawyer, the wife of Cleveland chef and restaurant owner Jonathon Sawyer, blasted kids menus in a post on her blog, Chef's Widow. She was inspired by a Facebook post by her friend, Iron Chef Michael Symon, who said children should eat the same food served to adults when dining out, because it would make them more open and adventurous eaters, and it was healthier than standard kids menu fare. Sawyer said many kids menu items are "the most UNHEALTHY thing you could ever order for your child." She then posted nutrition information about some kids menu items at popular chain restaurants. I remember friends who were so excited when their kids started eating and were omnivorous. "She's eating mango!" "He LOVES curry!" Then the kids hit between 2 and 3 years old, and it all went away. The food had to be beige, or the vegetables had to be drowned in ranch dressing, or no foods could touch each other, or all of the above. A jam-packed calendar in Avon this week!

The Frontier League is holding its All-Star Game on Wednesday at All Pro Freight Stadium. In addition to the game Wednesday evening, there are other events connected with it. Mingle with Crushers players at the All-Star Buffet to benefit the Crushers Booster Club from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Two Bucks. Come to All Pro Freight Stadium on Tuesday for Fanfest -- complete with a kickball game and autograph sessions -- followed by Home Run Derby. Avon City Council meets at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall. It is the last meeting before their scheduled summer break. Council meetings will resume August 1 with a work session.
