Voters Give Avon Lake Schools Overwhelming Support

Issues 4 and 5, renewal levies, each receive nearly 70 percent approval. Neither issue is a tax increase

Issues 4 and 5, both renewal levies easily passed with support nearing 70 percent for each. Neither levy is an increase Contacted Tuesday night, Avon Lake Superintendent of Schools Bob Scott sounded relieved—and very thankful. Issue 4 is the renewal of a 10-year, 1.5 mill permanent improvement levy that will raise $650,000 annually for maintenance of eight school buildings. It amounts to $18.98 per $100,000 of property evaluation. The unofficial results, with 100 percent reporting, was 2,320 (70 percent)  in support of Issue 4 levy and 975 votes (30 percent) against. Issue 5, a five-year, 5.45 mill emergency levy, will raise $4.5 million annually. The emergency levy amounts to $166.90 per $100,000 of home evaluation. Both go into effect in…

Avon Lake Voters Will Decide on Three Issues

School district has two levies on the ballot, the Avon Lake Library has one.

Avon Lake voters will decide on three issues on the ballot May 3; two are for the Avon Lake School District and one supports the Avon Lake Public Library. Issues 4 and 5 support the Avon Lake School District. Passage of the levies will not result in a tax increase. Issue 4 is renewal of a 10-year, 1.5 mill permanent improvement levy that will raise $650,000 annually for maintenance of eight school buildings. It amounts to $18.98 per $100,000 of property evaluation. Issue 5 is a five-year, 5.45 mill emergency levy that will raise $4.5 million annually. The emergency levy amounts to $166.90 per $100,000 of home evaluation. Both of these levies are renewals and will not cost the taxpayers any additional money. They go into effect in 2012. …

State Budget Cuts Increase Importance of Avon Lake Levy Results

Voters will see two replacement levies on Tuesday. Neither levy, if passed, will raise taxes.

The fate of Avon Lake’s two school levies is especially significant in light of recent state budget cuts, according to School Superintendent Robert Scott. “The permanent improvement levy is very important because this is how we maintain our facilities. The funds can only be used for improvements that last over five years and are over $5,000,” Scott said. “Anyone who has seen our schools knows that they are very well maintained.” “The emergency levy is very important because that’s our stability.
