Calling the six-days-per-week mail delivery business model "no longer sustainable," the U.S. Postal Service Wednesday morning announced it will eliminate Saturday delivery of mail by Aug. 1. Post offices will remain open Saturdays and package deliveries will occur on Saturdays, according to the U.S. Postal Service. Both Avon and Avon Lake operate Post Offices. Several years ago meeting were held as to whether or not to move the aging Avon Lake Post Office from the west end of the city. Avon's post office is relatively new. Friday is New Year's holiday for some
With New Year's Day falling on a Saturday, many government offices will be closed on Friday. Avon City Hall will be closed on Friday. It will re-open with normal business hours on Monday. Republic Waste reports that trash collections in Avon will go on as scheduled both this week and next week. There will be mail delivery on Friday, but not on Saturday. The Avon Post Office will close at noon on Friday and will be closed on Saturday. The Avon Branch Library will close at 5 p.m. Friday. It will be closed Saturday for the New Year's holiday and will re-open with regular hours on Monday.
