Avon Releases Exterior Drawings of New Middle School

Avon School District released exterior drawings for the proposed middle school expected to be ready for the 2015-16 school year. In February, the district rolled out an initial floor plan of what the proposed  160,000-sq-ft. building, expected to cost $32 million, would contain. This month, prelimiary drawings were released. Superintendent Mike Laub said progress was being made but noted it was still early. "At this point we continue to work with our architect to make adjustments, but we are very happy with the progress," Laub said. "I am excited for our students and staff. This school will provide the space needed for our 6-8 students while reliving the overcrowding that is happening at the Heritage campus. It really is the solution we …

Avon Superintendent of Schools Mike Laub unveiled the initial floor plan for the new Avon Middle School expected to be finished for the 2015-16 school year. Voters approved a levy to finance the school last November. Laub made the presentation at an open meeting Feb. 20 in the current middle school cafeteria.   The 160,000-sq-ft. building that will cost $32 million, will house sixth, seventh and eighth-grade students. The building will be constructed on a 46-acre property the district already owns on Long Road. The elongated building’s main entrance is next to administrative offices. Initial Plans for New Avon Middle School Will Be Unveiled at Wednesday Meeting

Having finally received voter approval for a new middle school, the Avon Local School District will be opening up plans for the new school on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. in the current middle school cafeteria.  The purpose of this meeting is to provide an update on the middle school project and give community members the opportunity to make comments and suggestions.  All community members are welcome to participate.  According to a memo put out by the district, they are in the beginning stages of the process working on the overall floor plan design.  The next phase is design development that will focus on what features will be on the inside of the building.   The district intends to have similar occasional sessions through the building …

Avon School Bond Offering Set, Community Can Purchase Until Thursday

$32 million in new bonds were approved in November General Election.

Avon voters approved a $32 million bond in November 2012 and now resident have the chance to purchase some of those bonds through Thursday morning. Money generated from the bond sale will be used to construct a new middle school. The $32 million is part of a $$40,274,214 total bond offering set for February. Avon Local School District treasurer Kent Zeman said the district will take advantage of the new bond offering to refinance $5.020 million from a 2006 bond issue and $3.26 million from a 2004 bond issue. “Essentially we are refinancing at a lower rate,” Zeman said of the additional approximately $8.28 million. “The best time to refinance is when you are issuing new bonds, because the costs (associated with a bond offering) are spread …
