Footage shot in Avon Lake locker room includes vulgar behavior and was posted on YouTube.

Some members of the Avon Lake High School baseball team will face some sort of discipline after vulgar footage of the team was posted on YouTube, the popular media site that is open to the public. The video featured team members performing to the popular Harlem Shake. The 30-second video opens with about a dozen members of the team readying for play, while one featured student simulates a sex act, while dressed, on a trashcan. After approximately 15 seconds, the entire team is featured dancing, some in compromising positions and some simply dancing.  The video was taken down March 11 as soon as school officials were notified. Zach Murray and Sean McCann with both play in the second round FCS playoff game, against each other.

Wofford College’s Zach Murray, a defensive end, will be playing against University of New Hampshire’s Sean McCann, a starting left tackle, with the game's winner advancing in the FCS tournament. At Avon Lake High School they lined up side-by-side on the D line. The two, who became fast friends in high school lived right behind each other. In 2008, their friendship and "sacking power" were the subject of a Morning Journal story. This weekend’s meeting marks a rare occasion when two former Avon Lake grads find themselves …

Dlugosz Credits Shoremen Win to Communication, Solid Efforts

After opening loss to Avon, Shoremen best Shaker Heights Sept. 2

If there is one thing about Shoremen football, they are resilient. After falling to Avon they bounced back with an exciting 27-20 win over Shaker Heights. Sept. 2. "We talked about it and said the penalties, the turnovers were not going happen again, and get a W," Senior running back Dontez Smith said as a number of fans chanted his hands "We have a fresh team, and said everybody was going to communicate. Everybody was rusty in the beginning and we had great practices and played like it Friday night. We are back on track, it feels great." How they did it was the blue-collar smash mouth way that has made Avon Lake known throughout the state. "Kids at Avon Lake take losses pretty hard. We did it the Shoremen way of old,” Avon Lake coach Dave…

Bohan, Ohio Stars, Participate in Legendary Big 33 Game

Future Zip played on team that crushes Pennsylvania

After the Big 33 Classic in Hershey, PA, Ohio State interim coach Luke Ficknell, along with Buckeye nation have to be licking their chops. That's because the Buckeye's finest not only toppled Pennsylvania's best football stars, but did so in a crushing manner, behind the efforts of a number of OSU recruits and former Avon Lake standout Andrew Bohan. The roster was filled with recognizable names including Doran Grant of Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary who had a 101-yard interception return for a touchdown. Also playing were Massillon's Devin Smith, another Ohio State recruit, who caught three passes for 103 yards and scored two touchdowns Then there was Ohio quarterback Cardale Jones, another Ohio State recruit, who should make the world forget …

Four Avon Lake Girls, Two Boys Advance to States

Christine Bohan, Nick Bossard, Pete Lancione, Katie Link, Morgan Srail and Kristen Winkel heading to Columbus.

Kristen Winkel never stopped running after her race. From the podium, she ran straight to the stands where she hugged her mom, and both shed tears. For Morgan Srail, it was more of the same. After her event, she dashed across the track and jumped into her fathers arms, in exuberance. Nick Bossard and Pete Lancione hugged each other and gave each other a high five, and were on cloud nine, while Katie Link was smiles from ear to ear after her race. The reason was simple. On a cool night at Amherst Richard Cooley stadium, each Avon Lake High School athlete punched at ticket to the ultimate prize, a chance for glory at the state track and field championships.  They will be joined by Christine Bohan, who started things off well for Avon Lake on…

Avon Lake's Katie Link Reflects on Rare Triple Gold

This Shoregal took home three gold medals at the SWC meet.

Some people create with words, or with music, or with a brush and paints. I like to make something beautiful when I run. I like to make people stop and say, "I've never seen anyone run like that before. "It's more then just a race, it's a style. It's doing something better then anyone else. It's being creative." It's an old runners adage, but in the case of Avon Lake distance runner Katie Link, it is more than appropriate. Especially after what she accomplished during the SWC track and field championships last week. There, she won the 800, 1600 and 3200 meter run, which is track and fields equivalent of the Triple Crown. Rare is the best word to describe it. Many have done it during dual meets, but to take home the gold in all three at a …

Weather Wreaks Havoc on Avon Lake's Spring Sports Teams

Tennis has had 9 matches postponed or canceled during spring of record rainfall.

"Rain, Rain, Go away, come back another day!"  It's a children's song, but this year in Northeast Ohio, it seems like a daily ritual. Streams have been near or teetering close to flood stage since the end of March, flooded basements are becoming a routine. There's been surprise snows this spring, and mother nature has also featured other extremes like dense fog and high winds. April proved to be a record setting month for Cleveland as 6.89 inches of rain fell. Twenty days featured rain, and according WKYC meteorologist Bruce Kalinowski, May is looking to hold a similar pattern. "The way its looking now, its basically the pattern that we are in and its not changing that much," Kalinowski said. "Pretty much there is no sign of a drying trend…

Avon Lake's Nick Brady Is Throwback to Another Era

Standout pitcher remains grounded, calm for Shoremen.

"The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don’t play together, the club won’t be worth a dime." Those were the words of the immortal Babe Ruth. Yes, the game of baseball is a team sport. You win as a team, you lose as a team, at least that is the way it was meant to be played. In today’s world though, somewhere that philosophy seems to have gone the wayside. Players put themselves on pedestals, and more often than not  sports malfeasance has dominated the headlines as of late. Then there is Avon Lake High School's Nick Brady, a throwback to another era. One of Lorain County's top baseball players, he is a breath of fresh air, someone that younger …
