2013 Wine Festival is Back, This Time on Saturday

Last year's successful inaugural event means more vendors this year.

Hoping to build on last year’s successful inaugural Avon Lake Wine Festival, Councilman Dan Bucci said the festival will return this year, but this time on a Saturday. The July 13 event will again be held at Veterans Memorial Park. The city is expecting to again receive a one-day alcohol permit for the park, where alcohol is not normally permitted. “The plans are very similar to what we did last year,” Bucci said. The inaugural event, held on a Friday evening last summer, drew more than 1,500 visitors. More than 1,000 people sampled wine from five Lorain County wineries at the event, which included art, music and food from area restaurants. “We want more food vendors from Avon Lake and are hoping for more (wine) pourers for shorter lines…

Drum Roll! Free Movies! And a Kids’ Event Not To Be Missed

Looking for something to do this weekend? If you live on the North Coast, you’re in luck. You won’t have to stray far from home to enjoy these activities this weekend. From Friday night’s Movie under the stars to Sunday night’s free concert in the park, we’ve found plenty for you to do. Movie Under the Stars on Friday What better way to spend a Friday evening than on a blanket or lawn chair watching Will Ferrell? The Avon Lake Parks & Recreation Department is hosting its final Movie Under the Stars, Friday, Aug. 4 at Walker Road Park. Snapshot: Swinging Through Summer at Miller Road Park

Sure it's hot outside, but enjoy it because it will be winter before you know it.

Lois Mills of Sand Springs Oklahoma gives her three-year-old grandson Dewight and his sister Madalyn a push on the swings Friday afternoon at Miller Road Park. Mills said she and her husband were in town to visit their grandchildren for the summer.

Friday's All-American Family Cookout & Festival is At Veterans Park

Hotdogs, hamburgers, face painting and music are just part of the afternoon and evening's fun.

The first of three major events held at Veterans Memorial Park  in Avon Lake this summer, The All-American Family Cookout, kicks off at 4 .m. on Friday, June 29. Sponsored by the non-profit Avon Lake Waterfront LLC, with the support of the city of Avon Lake, the barbecue—which is open to the public—promises a full afternoon and evening of great food and fun. And like the name suggests, the barbecue is a family friendly event. Local businesses will be providing the food and area organizations will be chipping in as well. Pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers, wings will be available for purchase from Avon Lake eateries.
