Avon Police Find Turtle on Detroit Road, Don't Shoot It

Avon Police took a different tact after finding an injured turtle on Detroit Road last week.

On June 1, a caller reported a turtle in the roadway north of Detroit. The police took moved the injured turtle out of the roadway and placed it in a container before taking it to the Lake Erie Nature Center in Bay Village for treatment.
This turtle fared better than one found injured last year.

In August 2012, Avon Police were alerted to a large turtle that had been struck crossing Detroit Road and was on a treelawn. The seriously injured turtle was shot three times by police.

“It was struck by a car and severely injured,” Avon Police Chief Richard Bosley said by email, in August.

The turtle was seriously injured, resulting in the police shooting it three times to put it out of its misery.
