Avon Lake Goodwill Store Set To Open June 14

New store will be open 7 days a week and accept donations.

The new Avon Lake Goodwill store in Learwood (Giant Eagle) Plaza is one of several new businesses readying to open in Learwood Plaza in the next 30 days.

Store manager have set a grand opening is scheduled for Thursday, June 14 with a traditional ribbon cutting ceremony at 10am. During the ceremony local officials, community leaders, and Goodwill representatives will welcome the new store to the community.

The doors will open for shoppers at approximately 10:15 a.m.

During the Grand Opening festivities, shoppers will have the opportunity to register to win a $50 gas card and take advantage of thousands of bargains throughout the store. The new Avon Lake Store, located at 375 Lear Rd. (Next to Giant Eagle), will be open Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays noon to 6 p.m.

Neighboring Avon operates a store on SR 83.

“A lot of people are asking why are we putting a store so close to another one,” Maretta BordenRetail Director for Goodwill Industries of Lorain County said, noting there is another store on SR 83 in Avon.

“We try to have stores where the donations are and we know the customers will follow.

“We feel like we are missing a lot of donations in that area that could help our mission, which is to assist people with disabilities and other barriers to employment.”

Goodwill retail stores assist people with disabilities and other barriers to employment become more productive and independent community citizens through a process of education, training, and work services.

The new store will add six new jobs and provide one to two more. Goodwill of Lorain County operates six retail stores and donation centers with the Avon Lake Store becoming the seventh.

Donations will be accepted at the Learwood Square location.

An attended donation trailer is currently located in the main parking lot of the shopping center and is open Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays,10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Jenni Juggs, a southern comfort restaurant, is also looking at a mid-June opening (see story in next week’s Patch).

I like the location, the one on 83 is very hard to get in and out of because of the traffic on 83. The store is usually busy, so another spot is warranted.

The Goodwill Stores are "donor driven". When there are enough donations to warrent putting in a new store, we try to put it in.
This store is going to be more like the current North Ridgeville store with a "Boutique" feel... too small for furniture and the like. It is hoped that it will have a good impact on the Learwood center and provide jobs for tha area.
All the money generated by this store will help local people with barriers to a better life, and help them find jobs.
Thanks Avon Lake!

I hope the Avon Lake store does a better job of processing donations and putting them on the shelves. The Avon store's shelves look half empty while the donation room is stacked to the ceiling. The only Goodwill I have been to in the Cleveland area that keeps the shelves stocked with a great variety of goods is the one on East 55th St. The folks working at the East 55th store are always stocking shelves and keeping busy. The store is clean and the prices are right.

See my post in the jenni juggs post..This goodwill is an equally bad idea! So you have a goodwill on 83 just past the train tracks going south and they are building a salvation army also on 83 in avon on the new extension road behind firestone and now this goodwill in avon lake!? How does this all make sense again? Basically 3 goodwills in a 5 mile radius!? I didn't know that avon and avon lake where in such dire need of goodwills all of a sudden!
