Jenni Juggs Opens in Avon Lake

Southern Style Cooking is on the menu in Learwood Plaza.

It might have taken an extra month, but in Learwood Plaza is officially open and serving Southern Comfort food.

“We had a problem with the hood,” Paul Sakal, who co-owns the resatuarant with daughter, Jenni Sakal, said.  

Regardless Avon Lake’s newest restaurant is open and ready to serve. The space that occupied a former Italian restaurant has been redone top to bottom, and includes tables and booths, charming Southern décor (complete with whiskey jugs, washboards) and Christmas-type lights wound through the high ceilings.

Old-time family photos adorn the walls, including black and white photos of Jenni's grandparents.

Visitors might first notice the charming southern décor, but will be immediately taken with the smells of the Southern-Style cooking including rotisserie chicken, ribs with sweet and tangy sauce, smoked brisket or perhaps a “bodacious burger” or chicken and waffles.

Side dishes abound with French fires, pinto beans, steamed rice, hush puppies, coleslaw and macaroni twists and cheese ($2.50 each).

If you’re looking for the exotic, Jenni Juggs serves fried gator tail, a plentiful plate for $8.99 or “Booze Battered Brilliance, crispy beer-battered  shrimp served with cocktail sauce for $8.99.

The restaurant also serves specialty sandwich’s (brisket, Ruebens and Monte Cristos) and full dinners that include two sides.

Cast iron cooking items (fried chicken, chicken and waffles, filet and seared rib-eye steaks) and “Friends of the Sea (cornmeal crusted catfish, trout or salmon dishes) round out the menu and of course a healthy selection of desserts are available. Dinners range from $9.99 to $12.99, and sandwiches, served with fries, range from $6.99 for an original reuben to $9.99 for a shrimp po-boy.

In addition to soft drinks and sweet tea, Jenny Juggs serves signature coffee drinks, tea, milkshakes and malts.

The store is open Tuesday- Thursday, 11 a.m. – 9 p.m., Friday, 11 a.m. – 10 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. and Sunday brunch, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. and regular service 2 p.m .- 9 p.m. Contact the restaurant at 440-653-5255 for takeout service.
