A new era for Avon began early Monday morning as the Richard E. Jacobs Health Center, the new Cleveland Clinic facility, opened for business.
Patients have been coming in since 7 a.m., said medical director Dr. Joseph Knapp.
It has been a very hectic last week for Dr. Knapp and the staff. They closed the Cleveland Clinic Westlake facility on Friday, and everything from files to supplies were moved from Westlake to Avon and organized over the weekend.
"The move went very well," a relieved Dr. Knapp said.
The $97.9 million, 190,000 square-foot facility employs about 400 people.
The staff was busy Monday, continuing to settle into their new spaces and helping patients find where they need to be.
While the health center is open, the emergency room will not be open late 2012 or early 2013, after the Nagel Road interchange is completed.
