Model Train Display at Avon Lake Library This Weekend Only

Members of the National Model Railroad Association MCR Division Four will be on hand to welcome you and share their hobby.

Love trains? Model train lovers of all ages are welcome this weekend to visit working model trains at the Avon Lake Public Library, Saturday and Sunday.

The library’s Waugaman Gallery is transformed into a model railroad complete with scenery and working trains.

Carol Lawler, Co-Vice President of The Friends of the Avon Lake Library with Teri Rife, helped bring in the display.

“The layout is the project of the Modular Group of the Mid-Central Region, Division 4 of the National Model Railroad Association,” Lawler said. “Each member of the group builds one or more ‘module’ sections for the layout. “

Each section must coordinate with the other sections so the track lines up perfectly. When the modules are connected the results are a large HO scale layout, complete with scenery.

Div. 4 members control it with Digital Command Control, a sophisticated remote control system.

“Members of Div. 4 will be on hand both days to run trains, answer questions, and promote their hobby,” Lawler said. “This event will be fun for all ages. It is a great preview for anyone interested in getting started in the hobby or to simply spark interest in a Christmas model train set.”

The display will be open in the Waugaman Gallery Saturday, Oct. from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 28 from 1 p.m - 4 p.m. The event is sponsored by Friends of Avon Lake Public Library
