Relay For Life Begins Saturday at 4 p.m.

The Relay runs through Sunday morning with plenty of activities going through the night. Open to the public.

The 2011 Relay For Life begins at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 4 at and continues through the night until 10 a.m. Sunday morning.

The Relay is the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Held at the high school’s Memorial Stadium, it is a family-friendly event.

The festival will feature plenty of family entertainment including music, food, contests, a golf ball drop, awards and prizes as well as somber moments, including the lighting of the luminaries that circle the track representing cancer survivors and those lost to cancer. Many participants pitch tents and spend the night.

“Faith in a Theory” who will perform a free concert. The band up is comprised of Nick Mast, Chris Mast, Callie Sullivan and Ben Brady. Sullivan is from Avon Lake, the others reside in Avon.

The Festival is free and open to the public.

American Cancer Society representative Suzanne Baker said the Relay will also host a “Relay’s Got Talent” from 7:30 p.m. – 9 p.m.  Baker said the Relay has raised important funds for the American Cancer Society.

“This event has now raised over 1 million dollars since it's inception in 2001,” Baker said.
