What is Your Favorite Children's Book?

Death of Maurice Sendak inspires memories for many

Maurice Sendak, author of the classic children's book Where the Wild Things Are, died Tuesday at age 83.

His death inspired tributes around the world as readers famous and not remembered the man who created a classic book out of a child's imaginary rampageous adventures after being sent to bed without supper.

Where the Wild Things Are captured the hearts of children long before it won approval from parents, librarians or critics. It is one of those books that can start a lifelong love of reading and imagination.

Today, let's talk about children's books.

Do you remember the first book you fell in love with? Share what children's books you still have, and read.

I have a lot, that I won't give up. Still on my bookshelves are the Little House books, everything L.M. Montgomery and Louisa May Alcott wrote, Elizabeth Enright's Melendy family series and the Gone-Away Lake books, Sidney Taylor's All-of-a-Kind Family series and A Papa Like Everyone Else, and Judith Kerr's When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit and its sequels The Other Way Round and A Small Person Far Away.

What modern books are your children loving and reading? Is it harder, in this digital age, to get children to love reading?

Go Dog Go is my favorite. I remember my mother reading it to me. It was one of the first books I bought for my son and he loves it, too. I, regret, I am not up-to-date on all the latest and greatest children's books.
No matter the book, it is important to read to your child. My son loves to sit and turn the pages of books and chatter to himself like he's reading the book.
