Avon Lake Readies For Homecoming Week

Avon Lake's biggest weekend begins Sept. 29

Avon Lake’s biggest week of the year—Homecoming—kicks off its activities on Thursday, Sept. 29 and continues through the Oct. 2 Fall Festival.

Here’s a rundown of the week’s activities. Check back next week as we highlight different events.

  • Thursday, Sept. 29: Avon/Avon Lake Rotary Great Pizza Bake-Off   This annual tradition from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. in the Commons has become a favorite. And why not?  It’s all-you-can-eat pizza for $10. Vote for your favorite local pizza place.
  • Thursday, Sept. 29: Pep Rally/Bonfire   The bonfire starts at 7 p.m. in the Avon Lake High School’s South Parking lot. Cheerleaders, twirlers, the band and athletes will help entertain. It’s like the 1950s again.
  • Saturday, Oct. 1: Homecoming Parade   Grab a bag for candy and line the street near the high school for the annual Homecoming Parade, starting at at 10:30 a.m. This year’s event features more than 70 parade units.
  • Saturday, Sunday, Oct. 1 and 2: Homecoming Fall Festival   Food, fun, raffles and local businesses, the Fall Festival at Avon Lake High School’s gym. The festival begins right after the parade. Balloon art, a magician, old-fashioned wagon rides are part of the fun. Check out the vendors’ tables, take your chance at a raffle and enjoy pizza, pastry, sausage sandwiches, hot dogs and more. 
  • The Second Annual Erie Shore Wellness 5K Run will be held Sunday, Oct. 2 starting at 9 a.m. at Bleser Park. Proceeds from the race will benefit and the Avon Lake Sports Hall of Fame.Registration is online at www.aalcrs.org.
  • Sunday, Oct. 2: Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast   Homecoming just isn’t the same without the annual all-you-can-eat in the Commons from 7:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 adult presale ($6 at the door), $2 for children 5-8 and free for kids 4 and under.
