Cleveland Clinic to Open In-Patient Hospital in Avon

Inpatient facility to be added to outpatient center

The Richard E. Jacobs Health Center will be expanding to include an inpatient hospital, the Cleveland Clinic announced July 2.

The Clinic’s Jacobs Health Center, located immediately off the I-90 Nagel Interchange opened in December of 2011

"Our Richard E. Jacobs Health Center in Avon has seen success beyond our expectations and inpatient expansion will help us continue to meet the increasing needs of our patients," Clinic CEO and President Dr. Toby Cosgrove said in a written statement.

To date, the center has welcomed more than 320,000 patient visits and have performed more than 4,500 outpatient surgeries.

Details released by the Clinic said it is in the process of securing additional acreage to allow for the construction of an inpatient hospital. Plans for expansion have been under consideration for the past three years since the inception of the current Richard E. Jacobs Health Center in Avon. The design will be unlike traditional inpatient hospitals to accommodate the way care is delivered in the future.   

The Clinic was keeping additional details under wraps and said information will be released in the future, including the number of beds the new facility will have. Information released does not indicate a construction date or whether the new facility will be formally attached to the existing center.

 The existing structure is a 190,000 square foot center is equipped with the latest technologies, and offers advanced specialty and primary care, some of the many services available include an outpatient surgery center, infusion suite for chemotherapy, full scale imaging center and a retail optometry and pharmacy on site. The facility also offers a large physical therapy area with two pools for aquatic therapy.

The facility employs more than 420 full-time physicians, nurses and support staff.

The plans were included in the initial concept of the center.
