Today's 20 Minutes of Reading... Brought to You From Under the Table!
Think outside the box and read somewhere other than the couch. Make memories with your children. Switch up your reading locations for a fun twist of events!
"Just 20 minutes a day reading aloud with young children strengthens relationships, encourages listening and language skills, promotes attention and curiosity, and establishes a strong reading foundation. These skills are essential for success in school and in life." - The National Children's Reading Foundation
So where are you going to read your twenty minutes today? Sure, the couch works just fine, but let’s think like a child here. Reading is good, but reading in a fort (under a sheet) would be better! Or with a flashlight at night? What about reading outside? You can read about bugs and then go on a bug hunt! Compare what you find with what you read about. There are so many ways to bring books to life! Create excitement and make memories. I always want my kids to look back and say “My mom read to me. Do you remember…” I remember when my sister read aloud the book The Five Little Peppers, by Marget Sidney. Every night she would read a chapter. I was so jealous that she could read so well!
When it comes to my children, who knows which book we read will stick in their memory as the most important. It could be anything! One thing I do know for sure it won’t be one I did not read.
