Build it and they will come, if government stays out of the way. In Lorain County, sections of cities are booming and jobs are more plentiful. Is the consideration, by business, to build in some cities inviting while in others not as much?
A recent trip to Elyria and that Mall provides a glimpse. On the corner of Griswold and Midway Blvd.is a vacant building that could have been a Walmart . Fences, boarded windows, tall grass and nothing much is all that’s there. Pretty much what’s all in that area of bad traffic patterns, lots of empty buildings and chuck holes. It is credit to the business that remains.
In Lorain, the sound of a beer can rolling down Broadway on a Saturday afternoon probably could be heard over the nothing. The Broadway Building, in all of its old glory, and before it was hacked in to whatever closed, remains.. Netting to hold up the crumbling has been there for years. Why isn’t Lorain following its own rules?.
Business knows that there are cities that require too much, and it is a battle not worth fighting. Fees, permits, too much tax, too many regulations and years before anything happens.
Some cities remain stuck. It would be interesting to know just how many businesses never even gave some cities a consideration because of the paperwork, grilling and hoops business must jump. And, oh how awful, the business that has the strength to fight this battle--a nightmare.

Doesn’t government know that to be accommodating brings jobs? As a business owner, and many of us know--don’t go in to Lorain, Elyria, and other cities in Lorain County because government will make life hell. They will expect more than they do of themselves, and the hoops will be many and costly.
Perhaps when government has to get a job, it will understand that business creates jobs--not government
