Browns Preseason Games 2 and 3

See me apologize while looking behind to look ahead at the Cleveland Browns.

I apologize. I, due to some school obligations have only caught snippets of the last two Browns preseason games. So I will just give you the scores and which players I think are better prepared or less prepared than others for the regular season.

In game two, the Browns lost to the Lions 30-28.

In game three, the Browns lost to the Eagles 24-14.

Game three was the only time I’ve seen some of the doubts about our starting offense creep up on our young team. Overall, I believe Colt McCoy is ready to step up and become the team’s franchise quarterback. He has a strong arm, is very accurate, and has poise and confidence in both the huddle and the pocket. His receivers are such that teams cannot just target one man and make Colt look unprepared. He has a variety of good, but not great receivers to get the ball to.

I also think Athyba Rubin and Phil Taylor look like great interior linemen for the future, and Sheard and Mitchell look to be very quick and aggressive, but may need to tone that aggression down for better play within the gameplan. Their over aggression can lead to easy screens and counter plays for the defense, as well as end-a-rounds and cut back lanes.

Unfortunately we still have yet to see all of our starting coverage men on the field at the same time, and that concerns me. However, the linebackers do not look as slow and un-athletic as advertised.

As long as our offensive line generates some push at the point of attack in the run game when the season starts, and all the other starters keep up with their very strong play, this could become a very interesting season. I will give a prediction following preseason game four.
