Bernard Johnson of Avon, Earned WWII Victory Medal

Spent 28 years working for Greyhound.

Bernard H. Johnson Sr., age 85, of Avon, passed away suddenly on Feb. 4, 2013 at Metro Health Medical Center.

He was born on Dec. 16, 1927 in Hartwell, WV and had been a resident of Avon for the past 16 years, moving from Lorain.

He served in the US Army and received the WWII Victory Medal.
Bernard worked as a bus driver for Greyhound for 28 years, retiring in 1985. He previously worked for B & O Railroad in West Virginia.

Bernard loved the great outdoors including hunting, fishing, camping and gardening. He also enjoyed traveling and wood-working.
Survivors include his son, Bernard Jr. (Joanne) Johnson of Avon; grandchildren, BJ (Susan) Johnson, Stephanie (Denny Tyree) Whitmer, Chad (Trish Dougan) Johnson; 7 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet, this past November; brothers, Alfred, Cecil and Eugene Johnson; parents, Walter and Lena Johnson.
Friends may call Thursday from 6 p.m. -8 p.m. at the Bogner Family Funeral Home, 36625 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon, where military honors will accorded by V.F.W. Post 9871 of North Ridgeville.
