Gordon Cerney, Member of United Church of Christ: Obituary

Gordon L. Cerney, age 85, of Avon Lake, passed away  June, 13, 3013 at St. John Medical Center  in Westlake.

He was born April 19, 1928 in Cleveland and raised in Valley City where he graduated from high school. Gordon served in the Army National Guard from 1948-1951 stationed at the Brook Park Armory. He was employed as a journeyman millwright and retired from Ford Motor Company in Avon Lake.

Gordon was a member of the Avon Lake United Church of Christ and enjoyed gardening and fishing. 

Mr. Cerney is survived by his children Dawn Phelps (Frank) of Avon Lake, Gordon E. Cerney (Karen) of Cleveland, James Cerney (Kim) of Henrietta Township, and Joy Kiser (Barry) of Avon Lake; his dear grandchildren Tim, Jessica, Brett, Brandon, Lucas, and Angie; and great-grandchildren Alyssa, Cailyn, Makena, and Ciarra. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Carolyn (nee Mamere) in 2011; his parents Joseph and Mary Ann (nee Kuhn) and a brother, Alva Jean Cerney. 

Friends may call at the Busch Funeral Home, 163 Avon-Belden Road, Avon Lake from 6 p.m. -8 p.m. Wednesday, June 19.  A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home Thursday, June 20 at 2 p.m.  The Rev. James Deitz will officiate. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
