Leo Kaliszewski, Advocate of Saving Deer in Avon Lake

He enjoyed a lengthy career with Fisher Foods/Fazio's.

Leo R. Kaliszewski, age 78, of Avon Lake, passed away Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. 

He was born on May 12, 1935 in Lorain to the late Leo and Norma Kaliszewski Field (nee Goldsmith).

Leo was a graduate of Clearview High School in Lorain. He was part-owner of Con-Sun Foods for 21 years before his retirement in 1999. Leo began a long career in the grocery business working as a clerk in the produce department at Fisher Foods in Lorain. He later became produce manager at Sparkle Market in Avon Lake before returning to Fisher Foods (now Fazio's).

A true outdoorsman and animal lover, Leo was a strong advocate for saving the deer in Avon Lake. He enjoyed playing golf, country music, watching Westerns, and reading about local history. 

He lived by the creed "A Man's Wealth Is His Family" and treasured annual family vacations to Myrtle Beach and attending his grandkids' sporting events.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Loretta "Ginger" (nee Mitroff); children Donald (Amanda) of Pittsburgh, PA, Monica White (Eric Kanoski) of Powell, OH, and Susan Asadorian (Kevan) of Olmsted Falls; grandchildren Ashley, Kara, Nick, Danny, Adam, Oisín, Bret, and Brennan; sisters Georgene Kochan (the late Jakub) of Greenville, SC and Norma Jean Dombroski (Kenneth) of Strongsville; many nieces, nephews, and friends; and his dog, Boo.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie Ilcisko (John), and brother, Thomas (Mary Ann).

Friends may call Friday, Aug. 23 at the Busch Funeral Home, 163 Avon-Belden Rd., Avon Lake, from 4 p.m. - 7  p.m. A memorial Mass will be held Saturday, Aug. 24 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 32929 Lake Rd, Avon Lake at 10 a.m. Please meet at the church.
