Theresa M. Horwedel, (nee Forthofer), Long History in Avon, Avon Lake

Descendant of one of Avon's founding families.

Theresa M. Horwedel, (nee Forthofer) 84, of Avon Lake, passed away, Saturday, November 24, 2012 at home in the company of her loving family.

She was a lifelong resident of Avon and Avon Lake. 

The wife of the late Lester "Bud" Horwedel of Avon Lake and daughter of Sophia (Oster) and Jacob Forthofer, she was one of eight brothers and sisters. Her parents were the forefather pioneers in the early settlement of Avon.

She is preceded in death by siblings Ralph Forthofer-Elyria, Ollie Forthofer-Avon, Dorothy Forthofer-Avon, Rosella (Forthofer) Walker and granddaughter Megan McGinnis. Survivors are her children, Lonny (Sue) Horwedel, Linda Burnworth, Rodger (Kimberly) Horwedel and Cynthia (Kevin) Sammon. Theresa is also survived by 12 grandchildren Chad and Lance Burnworth, Mathew & Mary Horwedel, Delainie, Brenna and Jerrod Horwedel, Cassie, Ryan & Caitlin Sammon and Rob McGinnis and Great Grandchildren Gavin, Chloe & Jessica Burnworth, Miranda & Emaley Burnworth and Claire & Cole Horwedel

Theresa grew up in Avon; attending Holy Trinity School in the 1930s and graduated from Avon High School. She was married to her loving husband, Lester Horwedel for 54 years.

She enjoyed poetry, dancing, gardening, helping on the Horwedel Grape Farm in Avon Lake and most of all, the love of her family. Terri worked as a caregiver for many years and her employment included working in Cleveland at Western Union Telegraph, Troxel Company and General Industries in Elyria and Western Enterprises in Avon Lake.

She served as past PTA President at president of Avon Lake High chorale and President/Treasurer of Avon Lake High School Band-Aid Music Department. She chaired the annual fund drives for the Vocal Music Department and organized Avon Lakes first PTA Christmas Gift Shop as a school fundraiser.

At Holy Trinity, Avon she was a member of the Ladies Guild, Ladies Guild of the Knights of Columbus, and past member of St. Mary's Mission Group, Pinochle Club, Avon Lake Fireettes and Democratic Club (Isabel Group).

Friends may call at the 163 Avon-Belden Rd., Avon Lake, Wednesday, Nov. 28 from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.

The Prayer Service will be at the funeral Thursday at 9:15 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Trinity Church, 33601 Detroit Rd., Avon at 10 a.m. Fr. John Misenko of the church will officiate.

Interment will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery. Family request in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Foundation or Cleveland Clinic Hospice. For more information or to send an online condolence go to www.buschfuneral.com.
