Storm Kept City Busy

Accidents, cars off road were just some of the issues.

Avon's didn't get much of a break as the snowstorm moved through the area.

Two cars spun out off I-90 west near mile marker 154 around 8:10 a.m. Tuesday. Both cars went into the ditch. One was gotten out with a tow truck, the other needed a winch. No one was hurt.

Two cars needed to be winched out in an accident around 7:28 p.m. at the intersection of Route 83 and Wyndemere way. Kyle Loomis was cited for improper backing.

Another accident happened around 12:53 p.m. Tuesday in the 36400 block of Mills Road. The driver of car heading west on Mills Road swerved when the Chevy Blazer ahead of it slowed down, but its brake lights weren't working. The car slid off the road and into a mailbox, suffering minor damage. No one was injured or charged, although the driver of the Blazer was told about the brake lights problem. A good Samaritan helped get the car out of the snow and back on the road.

A car heading west on i-90 spun off the right side of the road near ShurTech around 7:19 p.m. Another driver pulled over and helped get the Ford F150 back on the road.

Police warned a resident in the 3200 block of Stone Wheel Run who was clearing snow from his driveway into the street. It's to do that. The man had to clear the street of the snow his snowblower had put there.

A woman in the 3000 block of Moon Road reported that an Avon city plow truck destroyed her mailbox around 11:21 a.m. Tuesday. A man in the 35900 block of Hanamar Drive said a plow took out his mailbox around 3:26 p.m.

is not facing a problem with road salt shortages. 

According to a spokeperson the , there is an abundance of salt for the city, with no shortage estimate on the horizon. She also stated that the main roads are treated first, and then the city tackles the side roads. 

  took a proactive stance and canceled classes for a second straight day because of the ice, making the call on Tuesday night. All extra-curricular activities, including sports, were also canceled.
