Millage for 10-year levy is 8.28.

Avon Lake voters will see a 10-year, $6.5 million emergency school levy for the May 7 Primary Election.

An 8.28 millage rate was certified by the Lorain County Auditor’s Office. If passed, the levy will cost $253.58 annually, for every $100,000 of home valuation. If approved, the levy will generate $6.5 million per year, for 10 years.

A 9.04-mill levy was defeated in November by 675 votes.

The levy is based on the needs of a 5-year forecast. Still uncertain is the effect the 2015 closing of the NRG (formerly GenOn) Power Plant will have on the district.

Avon Lake City Schools receives real estate revenue and Public Utility Personal Property revenue from the power plant.
