Issue 5 is a five-year, 5.45 mill emergency levy that will raise $4.5 million annually. The emergency levy amounts to $166.90 per $100,000 of home evaluation. Both of these levies are renewals and will not cost the taxpayers any additional money. They go into effect in 2012.

Issue 6 supports the Avon Lake Public Library. It calls the replacement of an existing levy of 1.8 mills, and an increase of 1 mill to cover current library expenses. That would amount to an increase of $5 per month per $200,000 home evaluation. Taxpayers currently pay about $9 a month for the same property valuation. The five-year, 2.8 mill levy would raise $2.3 million a year. Money collected from the 2011 levy will not be seen by the library until 2012.
