Issue 10: Unlimited Opportunities For Students to Grow to Their Potential

School board member Jim Stobe weighs in on Issue 10.

Editor’s note: This letter is part of a group of 5 letters from Avon Lake Board of Education members. The letters are in support of Issue 10, a 10-year emergency levy will generate $6.5 million per year at a cost of $253.58 per $100,000 home valuation.

To the Editor:

I live in Avon Lake and am a parent of two young children. My daughter is a first grader and my son is about to enter kindergarten in the fall. Every day, I look at my kids and think about their potential, as it is amazing to see them learn and grow so quickly. I want my children to receive a better education than I had, to have the very best teachers, and to go to school in a safe and positive environment. Their future is the most important thing to me as a parent.

My children’s educational opportunities drove me to run for the Avon Lake Board of Education. As a Board member, I have seen the challenges the schools face in keeping the quality of education high as the finances have tightened due to State cutbacks and the impending power plant closure.

I have a message for other parents of young children who may not have gone through the schools yet. The Avon Lake School District is an amazing place for your children to learn. I have toured every school building while school is in session and I’ve seen so many wonderful opportunities available to our children. Our teachers and administrators have an unmatched passion for making the educational experience the very best for every student. Whether your child has special needs, has special talents, or is somewhere in the middle, they will be given unlimited opportunities to grow to their potential.

Unfortunately, the Avon Lake School District that your children will be entering is seriously at risk. We need to keep the future of our schools strong by voting yes for Issue 10. The graduating classes of 2024 and 2026 depend on your vote!
