Mitt Romney ‘Republican Victory Center’ Opens in Avon Lake

Avon woman is site captain for Lorain County Republican support center.

The Republican Party and Romney for President campaign set up the Lorain County Republican Victory Center in Avon Lake July 16, opening a phone bank and information center in Learwood Plaza that will represent the party locally 114 days before the November General Election.

U.S. Congressman Bob Gibbs, who is the Republican Avon’s ballot for a congressional choice in the General Election spoke to a group of 50 supporters at the center during the noon ribbon cutting in the storefront near that previously housed The Floor Gallery at 375 Lear Rd. #J. He spoke about Romney's platform and the need to vote President Barack Obama out of office in November.

Avon resident Meredith Traxler has been selected to be the “captain” of the center which will serve as a phone bank and have information available on a variety of Republican candidates including Gibbs, Phil Van Treuren (County Commissioner), Joe Wurzelbacher (Joe the Plumber, U.S. Congressional candidate for Avon Lake), Terry Boose (State Representative), Rae Lynn Brady (State Representative), Mike Musto (County Commissioner), Robert Cupp, Terrence O’Donnell, Sharon Kennedy (Ohio Supreme Court Justices) and others.

Van Treuren, Musto, Brady, Boose and were on hand for the ceremony as were Councilwoman Jennifer Fenderbosh and Martin O’Donnell (speaking on behalf of a vacationing Greg Zilka) and former mayor K.C. Zuber.

“This is where people can get information on Mitt Romney, including bumper stickers and fliers,” Traxler told Avon Lake Patch several weeks ago. “Volunteers will man a phone bank and collect data.”

The center is not technically a Romney for President headquarters, but a "Republican Victory Center," although Romney posters are most prevalent.

This marks the first time in recent history a major campaign center has been set up in Avon Lake.  Two years ago a center for the U.S. Senate race was set up in Elyria.

Traxler volunteered for the position and will be assisted by her sister Lizzy Traxler.

“I previously did McCain phone bank in Lorain and have worked a lot with Portman and Kasich,” she said.

The Republican Victory Center hours are Monday - Saturday from 9a.m. - 9 p.m. The center is looking for volunteers.
