What many hope is the final snowstorm of winter struck in the early hours of Friday morning.

As Avon residents set off to work or school, about four inches of heavy, wet snow was on the ground. Schools were open throughout the Avon area.

Jerry Plas, director of for Avon, said the main roads in the city were wet. Many secondary roads were snow-covered, he said, but passable. The city plows had been out since midnight, Plas said, and were tackling the secondary roads and subdivisions shortly before 10 a.m.

A winter storm warning remains in effect through 10 p.m. Another 3 to 5 inches of snow is expected in the Avon area.

Between the falling snow and gusting winds that could cause blowing and drifting of snow, Plas reminded drivers in Avon to "use common sense."

"Take it slow out there," he said.

The snow was the kind that sticks to trees and shrubs, making for the "winter wonderland" look. Did you take any pictures? Post them here and you may win a Patch tote filled with prizes!
