Avon Schools Closed by Ice

Iced-over buses the cause

Students at got Tuesday off thanks to a lingering effect of Monday's ice storm.

The school buses were frozen in place.

Superintendant Jim Reitenbach said Tuesday the buses were "caked" in ice, and could not be de-iced in time to get out on the road to pick up students.

"It looked like the buses were inside ice cubes," he said.

Road conditions were not a factor in closing school, he said.

Parent-teacher conferences scheduled for Tuesday at and elementary schools have been cancelled.

Conferences scheduled for Tuesday have been moved to Wednesday, March 2. If you had a conference scheduled for Tuesday, it will be at the same scheduled time on March 2. Parents are asked to only call the school if they cannot make the scheduled time on March 2.

The WSC Freshman Basketball Tournament, in which boys and girls teams are playing, is also cancelled for Tuesday. Tuesday's games will be played Wednesday -- girls at Firelands at 5:30, boys at Vermilion at a to-be-determined time -- with the championship game slated for Thursday.
