July 30 is Kids Fest at Weiss Field

Children ages 2-10 are welcome at this three-hour funfest that will feature mascots, G-Force

School is just around the corner. But before you pack the lunches, check the bus schedules and head to the store to outfit the kids in the latest and greatest, head over to the inaugural “Back to School” Kids Fest on July 30.

The event, sponsored by the Avon Lake Kiwanis Club, will be held at Weiss Field from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. It is geared toward children ages 2-10.

Kyle Maurer, who is spearheading Kids Fest project said plenty is planned for the event that will also benefit Avon/Avon Lake CRS in helping gather school supplies for the upcoming years.

“Attendees could expect outdoor activities geared towards children of all ages, whether its blowing and chasing bubbles for toddlers to jumping around in bouncy castles for the older kids,” Maurer said. “We have lots of other activities and games planned too, like water balloon toss, crafts and relays.”

Also on tap are corn hole, face painting, a chance to win and meet some mascots.

It’s more than just fun and games though. Lunch will be served, special prizes will be awarded, and there's even a concert by the popular girl band, G-Force, who made it into the top 40 live round of America's Got Talent.

All this for the cost of some basic school supplies or a cash donation at the event.

Maurer said that those attending are asked to bring some school supplies as an entrance fee.

“We decided to throw this event because every kid loves summer, yet they might not share the same enthusiasm for going back to school in August,” Maurer said. “So we figured we'd mix in a little fun and games. Kids are guaranteed to love the activities we have planned, and parents will love pitching in for a good cause."

Getting ready for school can really stretch the budget, and there's a tremendous need to make sure that children right here in Avon and Avon Lake are equipped with the supplies they need for the upcoming school year. All supplies donated at the event will be passed out by to families in need during their back to school campaign in August.”
