Schwartz, Tomko Earn Avon Leadership Summit Awards

Tennis player and golfer are both solid students.

Avon High School tennis player Abby Schwartz and golfer Alex Tomko were honored as the latest Avon Leadership Summit Awards on Sept. 24 at the Avon VFW.

Schwartz received her honor from varsity tennis coach Caroline Hughes and described as “the most dependable person on the team.” She leads the girls’ tennis team by not only taking control on the court, but also gives courage and confidence to her teammates while maintaining a 3.7 GPA.

Tomko received his honor from golf coach Jeff Stevens who said Tomko “enjoys the sport and has shown great improvement throughout the years, as demonstrated by him shooting a 77 last week at Sweet Briar’s Legacy course.”

Tomko did not make the golf team freshman year and in the 2011-12 season did not play a single varsity match. His performance this year shows how determination and practice has influenced him and his teammates. Tomko is also an excellent student.
