Thinking about buying a new mattress? If you can hold off another month, you could benefit Avon Lake High School bands and get yourself a great deal at the same time.
Selling mattresses as a fundraiser is becoming a popular way to raise funds across the country. Avon Lake, who held a similar fundraiser last year, will be using a Westlake Company, Custom Fundraising Solutions, to help with the Nov. 4 fundraiser. Schools can raiser $4,000 to $10,000 per event.
“The concept is unusual but one that absolutely works," Custom Fundraising Solutions founder, Joe Matejka, said. "One in 10 people buy a new mattress every single year. If a city has a population of 20,000 people, 2,000 will buy a mattress this year. With our business model, the schools stand to make a lot of money hosting a simple two-day sale.”
Custom Fundraising Solutions will host an event on Sunday, Nov. 4 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the Avon Lake High School to benefit their bands. This is the second annual sale for Avon Lake. Watch for kids holding signs on street corners and for a few lucky kids who get to wear the “mattress suit” while promoting the sale to passers by. The cafeteria will transform into a mobile showroom so curious shoppers can test drive any of the Consumer Best Buy award winning beds on display.
“We carry every size and every style of mattress you would find in a traditional showroom," Matejka said. "We even offer layaway and delivery.
Matejka said prices are discounted up to 60 percent because there is no overhead and advertising expenses.
