All-Star Game Thrills Young Fans

Frontier League prides itself on being affordable, family-friendly fun

One of the record crowd at Wednesday night's Frontier League All-Star Game at was a 9-year-old boy visiting his aunt and uncle.

"I've never had so much fun in my life," said Danny Harper of Richmond, Ind., who just happened to be spending the week in Avon on a family vacation and ended up at his first professional ball game.

Harper clutched a program signed by All-Star Andrew Davis, pulled out a baseball autographed by both Joliet Slammers star and game MVP Erik Lis and fellow Slammer Ryan Quigley, and said, "I want to be a baseball player when I grow up."

That was more music to the ears of Frontier League commissioner Bill Lee than the sound of the turnstiles whirling to let in 5,237 fans, the largest crowd to attend a baseball game in the three years All Pro Freight Stadium has been open.

"It's great to see all these people," Lee said, "It is especially important to see the kids and families. The big leagues have lost a lot of them because they have become so corporate. The economy has hit families hard. It's tough to pay out money to go to games, so we pride ourselves on being family-affordable entertainment."
