Avon Lake Boys Cross Country Wins District Meet

Ranked eighth in the state, the Shoremen will compete next in Regionals

The Avon Lake Shoremen continued their string of firsts this week winning the Division I district crown on Oct. 22. It was the first Division I crown for boys cross country, now ranked eighth in the state, in history.

The team had previously won the Division II titles in 1986 and 1994. The Shoremen have advanced 14 times to the regional meet at Tiffin, last year placing fourth at Tiffin to advance to the State meet in Division I where they finished 10th.

In a race with 13 teams competing, the Shoremen scored 44 points and were followed by St. Edward with 59 points and North Olmsted with 110 points. The Avon boys team tied North Olmsted but lost the tie breaker.  The top four teams advance to the Tiffin Regional meet next Saturday, Oct. 29.
