Avon Loses in State Football Final

Eagles' stellar season comes to an end

This was not how things were supposed to end.

The Eagles' amazing football season came to a close Friday night with a 42-28 loss to undefeated Trotwood-Madison in the OHSAA Division II state championship game at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium in Massillon.

The Eagles fell behind early, trailing by as many as 21 points.

Avon rallied in the second half, getting within a touchdown, 35-28, late in the third quarter. But Trotwood-Madison let the Eagles get no closer, and got a touchdown with about 6:35 left in the game to go up, 42-28. Avon wasn't able to come back from that.

Avon finished the season at 13-2. Trotwood-Madison is 15-0.
